Whidbey Island, WA

This post is WAY overdue, but better late than never...

The first weekend of August I traveled to Whidbey Island, just outside of Seattle to celebrate the marriage of Kelly and Pablo.  It turned into a fun weekend getaway and a bit of a college reunion.

Traveling to Whidbey was quite the process (but well worth it).  First I flew from SFO to SEA.  Lisa and Jeremiah were kind enough to pick me up at the airport, then we drove to the ferry terminal.  Usually on a Friday afternoon there would be a long wait for the ferry, but we somehow lucked out and only had to wait about 20 minutes.  It was the kind of ferry where you drive your car onto it which was new and fun for me.

The ferry ride was only 20 minutes, but they let you get out of your car and go up to the observation deck.

Once we got to Whidbey we had  about a 30 minute drive from the ferry terminal in Clinton to Coopeville, where we were staying.  A group of us rented a vacation home for the weekend, which worked out great.  We all don't get to spend a lot of time together, so it was fun to all be staying at the same house, as opposed to separate hotel rooms.

The first night proved that we are all getting a little over...we stayed in and played catch phrase.  It was great to catch up with everyone!

On Saturday we decided to check out the town of Coupeville.  Its very quaint with little shops and pretty views.  We started with breakfast at the Knead and Feed in town.  I had the most amazing cinnamon swirl french toast.  I also picked up one of their famous homemade cinnamon rolls for the next morning.

After a big breakfast we decided to brave the rain and take a look around town.  We checked out the shops on the main drag, then walked out a long pier to look at the pretty view.

That afternoon we got ready for the wedding and drove to Greenbank, where Kelly's family has a vacation house.  They were hosting a wedding reception at their gorgeous house to celebrate their wedding which happened a few months prior in Spain.  It rained for most of the evening, but we made the best of it and still had a great time.  We even got a chance to show the Spainards how American college kids party...keg stands and all.

Sunday we had to make the long journey back and unfortunately were not as lucky in the ferry line.  We probably waited about an hour and a half to get on the ferry, but once we did, it was smooth sailing.

Hopefully Kelly will invite us back again someday ;)
